Abstract

The polypeptide composition of measles yirus and the synthesis of virus-specific proteins in CV-1 cells have been extensively analyzed by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (l, 2, 3, 4, 5). The different protein patterns of “purified measles virus” reveal similarities but also large differences. Using several previously described methods ve failed to prepare measles virus free of cellular proteins (cf.3). The significance of “purified measles virus preparations” must therefore be questioned. Pulse experiments with different cell lines (Vero, BSC-1, HEp-2, Hel) and two different measles virus strains (Edmonston A and B) result in the detection of up to 9 presiomable virus specific polypeptides with a MW between 90.000 and 30.000 daltons. According to their MS we find: p8l, p73, p67 p62, p58, p51, p43, p41 and P37.
