Abstract
Of the three polymerizations that produce the tapes for the replication of genetic information, the framework of the biosynthetic process for protein synthesis is probably the one best understood. And yet close inspection shows our understanding to be still rather superficial. I will attempt here to summarize briefly what we know and to single out a few phases where we now hope to gain a deeper knowledge.
