Abstract
The term alloy, often used to describe blends of polymers, originated in metallurgy and is generally associated with a mixture of two or more metals. Structurally, there are two classes of alloys: (a) solid solutions, in which the atoms of one element may replace, in a random manner, the atoms in the crystal of the second and (b) multiphase alloys, in which one phase may be pure element and the second an intermetallic compound of specific composition (1–3).
