Abstract

Comparative analysis of the neurons of various parts of the visual system is essential before it can be decided whether specialization and generalization are present, not only in peripheral parts of sensory systems so carefully studied histologically during recent years by Vinnikov (1947, 1963), but also of their central portion. I shall here compare my findings with other studies of neurons. Neurons of the motor cortex have been studied by Zhukova (1950, 1953), and of the limbic cortex by Tsinda (1959, 1960). Important work was also carried out by Polyakov (1949), Cajal (1900–1906, 1911), Lorente de Nó (1922, 1938), and de Crinis (1933).
