Determination of Progesterone in Human Peripheral Blood Using Gas-Liquid Chromatography with Electron Capture Detection

  • Chapter
Gas Chromatography of Steroids in Biological Fluids

Abstract

Isolation and identification of progesterone in human peripheral blood by chemical criteria has been achieved for plasma of pregnant women (1) and plasma of normal women during the menstrual cycle (2). Several methods have been described in the past for the estimation of progesterone in plasma of females during pregnancy (3, 4). The lack of sensitivity of these methods has, however, until recently prevented the adequate estimation of plasma progesterone in early pregnancy and during the menstrual cycle.
