Abstract

In chapter 2, we introduced Maxwell’s equations, in their general form, as well as in particular, useful forms. Chapter 5 discussed in some detail time dependent phenomena, associated with induction. However, the discussion included only low frequency applications of the time dependent field since the displacement currents in Maxwell’s equations were neglected. This chapter deals with those time dependent equations and applications which require the inclusion of displacement currents. Both time dependent and time harmonic representations are discussed. Again, as in chapter 2, the distinction between low and high frequency applications is based on the need to include displacement currents rather than on requency. In particular, the propagation of plane waves, waveguides and cavity resonators are discussed.
