Chromatography of Metal Chelates

Abstract

It has long been an ambition of chemists to be able to analyse mixtures of metals by converting them to volatile derivatives which are amenable to chromatographic separations. For gas chromatographic separation it would be necessary for the derivatives to be sufficiently volatile to Chromatograph and yet be stable enough not to undergo thermal decomposition during the separation. For liquid chromatographic methods derivative volatility would not be a problem although stability at operating temperatures is still a requirement.
