Abstract
This chapter attempts to predict the ecotoxicological potential of a chemical that enters the environment after an accident, based on all data available about the substance. The prediction will be as general as possible and characteristics of the region will not be taken into account. For this prediction, data will be needed on physical and chemical properties of the substance its effects on biotic systems degradability and accumulation of the substance decomposition-, combustion- and hydrolisis-products toxicity for man and animals (short-term and long-term effects) volume produced additive and multiplicative effects with other substances
