Abstract

In the last two decades Biological Monitoring (BM)-programs have rapidly expanded, in addition to and sometimes as an alternative to environmental monitoring (EM). However, enthusiastic acceptance of a new approach may easily lead to confusion, e.g. in definitions and consequently in practice.
