SAIA: A System for Astronomical Image Analysis

  • Chapter
Data Analysis in Astronomy

Part of the book series: Ettore Majorana International Science Series ((EMISS,volume 24))

Abstract

SAIA is an image processing system designed to analyse astronomical data allowing a complete and detailed control of all the operations the system performs. It is implemented on a HP/Ramtek system. The most urgent purpose of SAIA was to analyse the data collected by Exosat, and this part is now currently operational. Afterwards it has been expanded to allow the analysis of data from different instruments. The performances of the system have been presented elsewhere (Chiappetti et al., 1983). Here we concentrate on its formal aspects and the overall structure.
