Abstract
I am not an expert data analyst, as will become apparent, but I have been concerned to provide astronomers with the data analysis facilities (D.A.F.) they need, particularly in the U.K. Although my views are coloured by my recent experiences in setting up and running STARLINK I should point out that they are not the official views of that project, from which I have now retired. This talk is collected under the following headings:

A very brief survey of what is available now.

Some of the main deficiencies and problems with today’s systems.
