Abstract

Studies on cancer immunology are now being conducted extensively in Japan. Since the beginning of the 1970s when living BCG and Corynebacterium parvum were widely applied to human cancer immunotherapy in the United States and European countries, various kinds of cancer immunotherapeutics have been employed for the treatment of cancer patients. However, clinical applications of Corynebacterium parvum and BCG, which were widely used as an antituberculosis vaccine in Japan, were not suitably employed in human cancer treatment.
