Light Composite Fermions — An Overview

Abstract

I know that Estia Eichten (in these proceedings), has already discussed one set of rules which describe massless composite fermions and the possible breaking of chiral symmetries. I would just like to spend a few minutes now discussing the status of some rules which have been proposed and also to emphasize a few points. In particular, I will discuss (a) ‘t Hooft’s anomaly conditions1 (and left-right symmetric theories), (b) ‘t Hooft’s decoupling conditions (or persistent mass hypothesis of Preskill and Weinberg2) , and (c) “tumbling”3 vs. no “tumbling.”
