Abstract

Most of the knowledge of the immune response to malignant tumors is based on manipulations of induced and spontaneous tumors in experimental animals. It has only been within the last two decades that the presence of tumor antigens and the hosťs ability to respond to them have been clearly demonstrated in humans. Knowledge of the significance and variability of this response is in its infancy. This probably accounts for the disappointing results of premature attempts to treat neoplasms by immunological methods.
