Abstract
K X-rays of Kr produced by 6 MeV/amu He-, Li-, B-, C-, N-, O-, and Ne-ion bombardment were measured with a Si(Li) detector as a function of Kr gas pressure. Ion beams were obtained from the cyclotron of the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research. The block diagram of the experimental apparatus is shown in Figure 1. The gas target cell has two windows with 7 ym thick A1 foils through which the beam passes and the other window facing the Si(Li) detector with 50 µm thick Be foil. The distance between the center of target gas (beam position) and the Be window was 77 mm. The gas cell itself is made of A1. The detector was placed perpendicular to the beam direction. Air space of about 7 mm existed between the window of the target cell and that of the detector. The energy resolution of the detector was 280 eV(full width at half-maximum) for 14.39 keV γ-rays emitted by a 57Co radioisotope. The gas pressure was measured with an α-tron gauge the accuracy of which was 5 percent.
