Abstract
This chapter includes material on the general effects of environmental stimulation on behavior and its development, the effects of isolation and special or unusual environments, and the role of specific environmental variables. Among the variables considered are environmental pollutants, heat and cold, noise, etc. Since most of these conditions represent sources of stress for the individual, a section specifically devoted to environmental stress is also included. The chapter is organized in five parts.
