Abstract

The appearance of the laser, and more precisely, the argon laser, constituted a considerable advance in ophthalmology. Retinal photocoagulation permitted a radical modification in the prognosis of a number of ocular diseases by allowing intraocular surgery of a very delicate type in the unopened eye.
