Abstract

“Search theory” means different things to different groups of authors. In fact, the 1977 Science Citation Index reveals about 2,900 articles having “search” in their titles, of which only a few appear to be the sort of search theory to be discussed in this conference. Consequently, the kinds of search theory whose applications will be considered in this paper are now discussed.
