Abstract
The insight that the psychotherapeutic interview, as a powerful influencing situation, is suitable for rhetorical analysis is so illuminating, once it is stated, that one marvels that so few people have thought of it. The similarities of rhetorical and therapeutic interventions are indeed striking. The author’s cogent analysis is in itself a valuable contribution by showing that Aristotelian categories of rhetoric can be applied to features of therapeutic interactions, thereby opening up a new and exciting domain of study.
