Abstract

Initial exploratory tests, and trials of the use of exogenous interferon in man have had fairly promising results (1–7); however, further more extensive trials will probably be restricted by limitations in the supply of interferon. Almost all trials of interferon in man have, up to now, been performed using leukocyte-derived interferon produced by induction with Sendai virus (8). This system of production is dependent on the supply of human blood buffy coats, and this factor alone restricts expansion of production from present levels.
