Abstract
The application of enzymes to catalyze synthesis reactions has been explored to a far lesser extent than applications involving only simple degradations or transformations. In theory there are many conceivable enzymatic reaction schemes which result in synthesis of desirable chemical compounds. Most of these schemes, however, involve a sequence of reactions incorporating enzymatic steps which have been separately demonstrated, but which in practice have not been linked together in a single reaction network to produce preparative scale quantities of product for subsequent isolation in pure form.
