Abstract
In the last few years tremendous advances have been made in providing real time satellite pictures to meteorologists. Concurrently, meteorologists have made significant advances in their operational use of these pictures. Satellite pictures, especially when used together with other types of observations, such as radar, are now one of the most important aides we have in detecting hazardous weather in its earliest stage of development.
