Abstract
Spacecraft systems have three unique capabilities in collecting data from the ocean: (1) frequent repetitive measurements (daily to weekly), (2) the synoptic view, and (3) real-time data transmission. On the other hand, there are two basic disadvantages; the measurements are only of the sea surface and atmospheric parameters interfere with the quality of the measurements. Consequently, the most suitable ocean conditions to examine from space are gradients; in color, temperature, and surface texture.
