Abstract
Beside the system of thiol-proteindisulfide oxidoreductases (TPO) described in Reinhardsbrunn which catalyzes the cleavage of disulfide groups of insulin, the liver disposes of a spectrum of proteolytic enzymes capable of degrading insulin and also glucagon at a wide range of hormone concentrations. This communication presents new results on the breakdown of 125l-insulin and -glucagon by the so-called insulin-specific proteinase (cytosol) and the lysosomal cathepsins B1, B3, and L.
