Primary Reaction of Intracellular Protein Catabolism

  • Chapter
Intracellular Protein Catabolism II

Abstract

In 1968 we proposed a hypothetical mechanism for the selectivity of intracellular protein catabolism: different degrees of exposure of superficial hydrophobic areas of substrate proteins could cause different affinities for lysosomal membranes and/or proteolytic enzymes (Naturwissenschaften 55, 211 (1968).
