Abstract

Human oocytes matured and fertilized in vitro (Edwards, 1965; Edwards, Bavister, and Steptoe, 1969; Bavister, Edwards, and Steptoe, 1969) are now available for laboratory studies, but two outstanding problems must be solved before they can be used clinically. First, pre-ovulatory oocytes must be recovered after they have completed much of their maturation in the ovary.
