Abstract
It is a great pleasure for me to great the participants in this Symposium here in the Biological Research Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. As the director of this Institute and the head of the Organizing Committee I particularly want to welcome those colleagues who have come from abroad, especially since, for most of them, this is their first visit to Hungary. I extend our best wishes to them and hope that it will be a pleasant sojourn and one worth remembering.
