Biological oxidation and conjugation of pesticidal chemicals

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: Residue Reviews ((RECT,volume 48))

Abstract

The object in studies on the metabolism of foreign compounds, including pesticidal chemicals, in biological systems has been to understand the mechanism whereby these materials are detoxified and excreted by the organism and to ascertain the nature of the terminal metabolites. A sophisticated knowledge of metabolic routes, including an understanding of how they might be expected to operate with a newly introduced compound, would allow the design of new materials that would specifically fit a preselected pattern of host specificity, selectivity, environmental stability, and toxicity.
