Abstract

Much work has been done on possible agricultural antibiotics during the past 20 years. In western countries, however, only a few of these antibiotics have been developed for practical use. These are streptomycin, terramycin, cycloheximide, and griseofulvin. Streptomycin, the first antibiotic introduced in agriculture, was first used in the United States for the control of pear fire blight. This antibiotic and a mixture of streptomycin and terramycin have been used for the control of bacterial plant diseases, while cycloheximide and griseofulvin have been used for fungal plant disease control.
