Abstract

In this paper, we shall describe the broad patterns of Quaternary sediment distributions in the deep Indian Ocean in relation to climatology of the region, physiography, and oceanic circulation. This will be followed by a brief discussion of pre-Quaternary sedimentary processes since the Mesozoic, reviewed by previous workers (Kidd and Davies, 1978; Davies and Kidd, 1977; Sclater et al. 1977; Vallier and Kidd, 1977; and others), as well as those aspects of the pre-Quaternary sediments not treated in previous studies.
