The Construction of the Social World

  • Chapter

Abstract

Consider the following descriptions: Michael is warm and friendly; he really helps you when you are down. Cindy is a live wire; she makes everyone around her happy. Fred is a serious student; he thinks a lot and is kind of a loser. Barbara is stuck up; she thinks money makes up for brains. These are off-the-top-of-the-head descriptions of four classmates. Do any sound familiar? They are the way many of us might describe people around us.
