Magnetohydrodynamic Theory of the Pinch Effect in a Dense High-Temperature Plasma (Dense Plasma Focus)

  • Chapter
Reviews of Plasma Physics

Abstract

Recent successful experiments by Filippov et al. [1] using an intense pulsed discharge in deuterium at an initial pressure of ∼ 1 mm Hg and a peak current of ∼106 A have stimulated theoretical attempts to understand the significantly favorable plasma parameters (as compared with earlier work) that were obtained in these experiments: T ∼ 1 keV, n ∼109 cm−3 (with a compression factor ∼100).
