Methods of Preparation of Thin Films

  • Chapter

Abstract

Methods of preparing thin films may be divided essentially into two main groups, namely chemical methods (including electrochemical methods) and physical methods. We shall devote most attention to physical methods, because they result in the formation of very pure and well-defined films. In practice they are applicable to all substances and to a great range of thicknesses. But first in the section that follows we shall briefly enumerate the chemical methods that may be used in producing thin films.
