Cooperative Behavior of Configurational Dipole Defects in Plastic Deformed Semiconductor Crystals

  • Chapter
Laser Optics of Condensed Matter

Abstract

The development of the technique of mechanically loading crystals, placed in a low-temperature optical cryostat, with simultaneous recording of time-dependent, spectral and polarization characteristics of photoemission of a low-temperature deformed crystal enabled the observation of a number of new effects.1,2 An essential specific feature of our technique is that all these optical characteristics may be observed by light emission from a fixed local crystal region and correlated with its structural singularities. The application of this space-resolved photoluminescence method made it possible to observe emission bands arising in a rather narrow spectral region in deformed CdS crystals.3,4
