Abstract
The question, “Why is insect immunity interesting” was posed by Boman et al. (1974a) and, as might be expected, they brought forth a number of satisfactory answers to the question. If we go one step further and ask the question: “What is the basic mechanism (or mechanisms) underlying insect immunity”, we cannot do nearly as satisfactory a job of answering.
