Abstract
Nutrition has a major role in the development of dental tissues and is a primary contributor to the establishment of an oral environment compatible with dental health. Dietary factors, together with microbial ones, influence oral disease processes to a large extent, depending on quality, quantity, and frequency of foods consumed. While the effect of nutrition on dental development and oral environment is generally accepted, the specific effects of malnutrition on development of oral tissues and the true magnitude of this factor in human oral disease has not been sufficiently measured or investigated.
