Abstract
During the last few years, new tools have been used successfully by physiologists, pharmacologists, and biochemists to elucidate the metabolism and functions of some monoamines in the central nervous system. The development of histochemical fluorescence techniques, the utilization of labeled monoamines or of their precursors of high specific activity, and the discovery of new drugs have contributed particularly to the accumulation of much information related to the central metabolism and disposition of norepinephrine (NE), dopamine (DA), and serotonin (5-HT).
