Start-Up of a Day Treatment Program in a University Medical Center

  • Chapter
Day Treatment for Children with Emotional Disorders

Abstract

University medical centers have the complex and expensive responsibility to provide medical education. In order to meet this mandate, they must attract quality medical academicians and students through the initiation and operation of excellent clinical programs. In addition to this responsibility for education, they are also committed to research endeavors and are becoming more dependent on programs that have the potential to support clinical faculty and to operate with fiscal independence. Child and adolescent day treatment programs provide an innovative clinical approach able to support educational opportunities, research programs, and clinical services. The mesh among university objectives and day treatment potentials allows medical universities to provide one of a variety of settings in which the operation of a child and adolescent day treatment program is appropriate.
