Abstract
During 1970, the medical leadership of the American Cancer Society studied available epidemiological data concerning cancer in the United States. It sought to evaluate the current position of the American Cancer Society in the ongoing fight against cancer, to develop special target areas for this fight, and to scrutinize the tools that were available to improve immediately the mortality from the leading types of cancer found in the United States.
