Abstract
On both apples in Washington and peaches in California pest control programs which rely solely on chemicals result in serious problems with tetranychid mites. In both cases some pests are present which have very low economic injury levels and which require use of pesticides to maintain economic control. The common practice of using preventive schedules of pesticide application has resulted in destruction of natural enemies of mites. The use of acaricides for mite control, moreover, has not been entirely satisfactory because of selection for resistance and resurgences of mite populations.
