Abstract

The use of electrical methods in geophysics has expanded greatly in the past two decades, and during the same time period an interest in subsurface communication has developed. The most comprehensive book on electrical methods in geophysics was written in 1966 by Keller and Frischknecht [1], and it is still an excellent reference today. The review article by Murphy and Parkinson [2] is an excellent reference on underground communication. Both geophysical prospecting and underground communication require transmission of signals into the earth and, as a result, the same antenna types are used for both applications.
