Abstract
At the scale of enterprises, the management of networks, systems, and applications spans from hundreds to thousands of managed nodes and involves from thousands to tens of thousands of managed objects. Managing resources at this scale generates hundreds of thousands of messages which cross the network and carry management related information. This information has to be processed, forwarded, and stored in order to allow orderly access for day by day management operations and further historic analysis. Database management services provide storage, access, and data manipulation services to the benefit of other platform services and of applications running on management platforms. The position of data management services within the overall run-time environment is indicated in Figure 8.1.
