Abstract
The American Institute of Timber Construction (AITC) points out many advantages of timber construction, including strength, light weight, and speed. Pound for pound, engineered timber is stronger than other structural materials in most structural properties, including deflection. Conversely, volume for volume and area for area, it has about one-tenth the strength of steel, and deflects more than steel.
