Abstract
Natural selection is caused by differential reproduction; in an asexual world, this concept would be sufficient to account for adaptedness. However, in many organisms—perhaps, fundamentally, in all eukaryotes—the vegetative processes of growth and reproduction are occasionally interrupted by sexual episodes.
