Abstract

Optical lasers produce beams of photons with high coherence and spectral brightness. Consequently they are enormously important for quantum communications and measurements. Atom lasers are proposed devices that would emit similarly coherent and bright beams of bosonic atoms. These properties would make them useful atomic sources for atom optics experiments and applications.
