Abstract
Autistic disorder is a severe form of psychopathology evidenced early in childhood and characterized by severe, pervasive behavioral deficits and bizarre behavioral patterns. Although the disorder is relatively rare, the severity and nature of the children’s behavior have attracted the attention of researchers and clinicians for decades. This interest no doubt relates to the profound impact such a child has on the family, school, community, and society. Autism has challenged professionals in every field relating to child development. What follows is a discussion of this unique disorder.
