Abstract

A short review of Inertial Fusion Targets is presented according to a systematics based on the four consecutive phases of the evolution of a target: beam illumination; implosion hydrodynamics; fuel deceleration and compression; and ignition and burn propagation. Main critical points of each phase are pointed outed. Besides that, the paper deals with three novel topics: volume ignition; externally guided implosions; and solid DT fuels at room temperatures. All of them are good examples of the richness of ideas that must not be disregarded in the framework of Inertial Fusion.
