Summary
This chapter describes the theory of echo-planar imaging (EPI) and technical issues in its practical implementation. It also explains the developments of EPI which enable it to be used to make quantitative measurements of parameters such as magnetic resonance relaxation times, chemical shift, or flow. Finally, the main areas of application of EPI are discussed.
