Abstract
Colour image processing is usually performed on visual information which has been collected electronically. The principles and practice of this sort of information acquisition derive from techniques which were developed primarily for television applications. Whilst some aspects of television technology are inappropriate, or result in non-ideal images from the processing point of view, nevertheless the fundamental principles of scanning and baseband video signal production are sufficiently important to be included here.
