Abstract
Caught-up in the quality revolution, manufacturing and service organizations have been allocating enormous resources to never-ending quality improvement. Yet, in many cases, it is not clear what constitutes quality improvement, how it can be measured, and what the trade-offs are between the quality of a product or service and other variables that are also critical to various decision processes in its design, production, marketing, post-sale service, and use.
